Allen, of the Massachusetts Rental Housing Association (link) , writes: "Here (in Massachusetts) tenants get free legal aid that is paid for by all taxpayers. We have a legal system that has made huge inroads with the Dem leaders in the state house. proposed law changes are re written by legal aid to either favor tenants or to make it more difficult on landlords. Many landlords have condo'd and gotten out of the mom and pop business. Depreciation is a paperwork nightmare which I find a complete waste of time PLUS it makes doing renovations that much more costly.

I feel that the system wants to shut us down. And that the system wants all rentals in community development companies which are supposedly non profits. The public doesn't care as the public doesn't realize that they are not paying property taxes. I cannot find out if they pay water and sewer charges or if other water users make up the difference."
